SPOS #188 – Media Hacks #24

Posted by

Welcome to episode #188 of Six Pixels Of Separation – The Twist Image Podcast. This is also episode #24 of Media Hacks. As you can well imagine, we deep dive into whether the new Apple iPad is a big mess for Apple or whether or not this new computing device is going to change the game. Amazingly enough, we even have time to discuss the growing popularity of Foursquare and what that platform is going to do to make things that much more local. Julien is on the call, so this episode if not safe for work (you have been warned). Enjoy the conversation…

  1. I disagree with Chris. I don’t agree with it, and I don’t believe I could hand this episode to a client to review the iPad conversation. However, I challenge you to find another place on the internet where you can be part of the inner circle and hear what’s going on in the media industry. I laughed out loud at how painful Julien’s entrance was.
As a side note, please post a link (affiliate link included) where we can purchase a couple of those 30 pin adapters.

  2. I love that you guys discussed Foursquare and the other LBS’s out there. I’m pushing clients to adopt and drinking the kool-aid from a beer-bong.
One thing I think you guys left out is what I find to be the truly “revolutionary” part about Foursquare (and others): The ability for businesses to offer rewards for checking-in/Mayorship (read: broadcasting the venue to social networks). Like Mitch, I was “meh” about LBS’s until I figured this out. See http://foursquare.com/businesses for examples.
And I’m sorry, but my favorite thing about Media Hacks is the unfiltered discourse and the F-bombs just add value for me. There are plenty of podcasts out there that don’t include Julien. Zzzzzzzzzz.

  3. OMG, can I just say I LOVE the fowl language? Like seriously!!!
I mean.. the thing is.. you know.. all this personal branding blah blah blah.. so much of the conversations out there have this kind of image management component.. where we understand that you have these business objectives that are a part of your social media engagement.. so you’re not going to post those pics of your new giant bong on your face book.. so in this sense I feel like the conversations going on is a little out of wack.. from how people really are, and to hear the constant F Bombs.. sounding so shocking.. shocking to this norms we’ve all grown so accustom to.. oh it was just brilliant!

  4. Here’s an “interesting” side note to the whole 4square/local information discussion. There’s an app called “Stuck” that lets people indicate where they’re stuck – seriously. Posts range from “Stuck in meetings all day” (who cares?) to the more useful “Stuck in a traffic pile-up, avoid if you can” (which makes me wonder if this person might have caused the pile-up when goofing off with his or her iPhone). Anyway, thought you might find this interesting… or at least mildly amusing.
