SPOS #316 – Content Marketing And The New Advertising With Rebecca Lieb

Posted by

Welcome to episode #316 of Six Pixels Of Separation – The Twist Image Podcast. I’ve been following Rebecca Lieb‘s marketing, advertising and media thinking since the early days of online marketing and her work at ClickZ and when she ran Search Engine Watch. Her bestselling book, The Truth About Search Engine Optimization, is a must-read. Most recently, she published a book titled, Content Marketing – Think Like a Publisher – How to Use Content to Marketing Online and in Social Media. After interviewing Jeremiah Owyang from Altimeter Group (you can listen to that show right here: SPOS #303 – Why Social Media Agencies Are Turning To Advertising With Jeremiah Owyang), he recommended that Rebecca come on to the podcast, as she joined Altimeter Group as their Advertising and Media Analyst. How could I say no? Enjoy the conversation…

Here it is: Six Pixels Of Separation – The Twist Image Podcast – Episode #316 – Host: Mitch Joel.

  1. Hey Mitch – excellent podcast. I had been eagerly awaiting Altimeter’s report on this since I met Jeremiah Owyang when he was in Toronto last May.
The reason I had been so excited for this report is that I have been developing a unique platform that fits directly into the Converged Media model and have since sold it in to a number of agencies in Toronto.
My company is called Antelope and we leverage Facebook’s Open Graph and Twitter/YouTube’s APIs – to track social media content for thousands of brands (particularly Canadian ones).
We then analyse across relevant competitors in particular industries – which helps to uncover best practices for brands to increase their earned media reach on major social channels. This is done by developing content that has a higher potential for engagement, creating higher volumes of content and timing that content to reach the right people at the right time.
I would be thrilled if I could show it to you or Twist’s strategy team if you’d like to learn more.

  2. Been following your podcasts for a while now. This one stood out! Rebecca Lieb makes a great interviewee! Her comfort level with content marketing, and marketing in general came through. Not sure I caught a single “er…”

  3. Hi Mitch,
I love most of your podcast (and the music at the end) but this one was outstanding. Great insights and clear views how Contentmarketing could fit into a strategic plan. The combination with Paid, Owned and Earned made it even better. I want more 🙂
