SPOS #53 – Television Disrupted

Posted by

Welcome to episode #53 of Six Pixels Of Separation – The Twist Image Podcast. This week there is an amazing conversation with Shelly Palmer from Media 3.0, Author of Television Disrupted and President of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, NY (the organization that bestows the coveted Emmy Awards). Please make sure to listen to this conversation – especially if you think the TV networks just “don’t get it” (are you listening to me Joseph Jaffe? ;). Shelly is fascinating. I’ve also started a Facebook group called, Six Pixels Of Separation Podcast Society. There are over one hundred members already, so join the mix. Enjoy this conversation…

  1. Wow Mitch!!
You really juiced up this episode with Shelly Palmer.
The media truth away from the empires must definitely move to 2nd gear. Why every new media is immediately saturated by advertising, when we are reinventing the way we relate with audiences??

  2. Hey Mitch!
The Just One More Book duo has tagged you to participate in the 8 Things Meme. We are looking forward to your post.

  3. G’day Mitch,
I’ve got no idea Who the theme music was behind the hilarious rock, scissors, paper comment.
I bet this guy does though:

Also, I gotta say I LOVE the term ‘Party Media’ – we need to start helping it enter the lexicon.

  4. G’Day Mitch,
I’m an avid fan of the podcast and maybe one of the few that prefers the format with less user comments and more interviews. Probably on the back of a few over the last couple of podcasts where I’ve seriously had to wonder what your proctology bill was to remove your mate from Scotia bank. I appreciate he’s a mate, but I’m finding at the moment I’m having to either fast forward or turn off the podcast because I can’t stomach the sycophantic ditribes that you through into your podcasts. I know you’re all for the power of the personal brand, but mate, maybe its something that Australians struggle with, I just find it too much and feel it detracts from the value of the podcast. I sometimes feel I have to listen to it for 15 mins before I get to what I love most about your show, which is the insightful and eye opening interviews and discussions re marketing and new media you have. Apologies for my rant, but please think a little about less of the self love and more of the good oil. Yours respectfully.

  5. Hey Chris,
All comments are appreciated. I’ve had some other side comments that are similar (maybe not as blunt ๐Ÿ˜‰ in the past little while, and I guess 6POS grapples with what it was to the smaller (initial) audience versus how it has grown. I am working on it – promise.
As an aside, I don’t think your comments about Scotiabank are fair and balanced. He called in to wish congratulations on doing this show for a year. It had been a long time since he had called in and it was a kind (and appreciated gesture).
Personally, I’m not a huge fan of interview-only Podcasts. It’s not my style to have a show filled with Q&A by just recording phone conversations. I like sprinkling that in – here and there – but not as the bulk. We also have a healthy audio community, and I think I’ve put a significant amount of effort into hearing the many voices and adding commentary to further the conversation.
6POS is my audio playground. It’s my own experimentation into the world of Podcasting. When I talk about events that I am speaking at/attending, it usually does stir people to come and meet-up in person or get involved.
I’m sorry if you feel like it is “sycophantic diatribes” – but the point of the show is to highlight what’s been going on in my world from a marketing, communications and advertising perspective.
    I hope you’ll keep listening.
