Episode #226 of Six Pixels of Separation – The Twist Image Podcast is now live and ready for you to listen to.
I last connected with Jared Spool on episode #77 of this Podcast (it has been a while and the world has changed a lot). If you’re interested in the Digital Marketing spaces and curious about what makes customers click (literally), there is probably no one better in the world to help you understand how to make that happen than Jared. His company, User Interface Engineering, is known globally as the place to learn about user interface design and beyond. He also happens to be a very funny and enjoyable person to follow on Twitter. Happy Halloween! Here are some real digital treats for you. Enjoy the conversation…

I didn’t know Mr. Spool until this, but I’m glad that I do now. Another great podcast Mitch. Thank you.
Jared is one of the Web’s unsung heroes. He’s known in his little corner of the world, but he should be known the world-over. He’s a great, great guy and backs it up with the super-smarts.
I’d like to refer to this as a sleeper hit. Like you Joe, I didn’t know Jared Spool at all before this at all but the conversation just blew me away.
Mitch, even though I find you are good about sitting back and letting your guests do the talking, I don’t think I’ve ever heard you so quiet while hosting a chat.
One concept that caught my attention was when Jared starting talking about magic… at first I was like “where is he going with this” but then it started to make sense to me.. great UX really is magic.
Then, as I was reading The Brand Gap last night, I came across a sentence about how branding really is magic and it really hit me: marketing, when done right really is magic.
Behind the scenes there may be technical, complicated stuff going on but in front of the audience, everything needs to be polished, simple to follow and smooth and most of all entertaining. That doesn’t mean you are deceiving your audience but you are DELIGHTING them. Big difference.
Anyways, solid episode and I’m kinda surprised it’s not getting more attention because I think Jared drops some great stuff on this episode. UX really is going to be the next great frontier in marketing (in many ways it already is) but I am starting to see a more active UX community bubbling up here in Ottawa and in many other places. It used to just be a few people going to those things.. now the audience is starting to expand to include web people, marketers, comms people…
I would love for some of these shows to get more traction. I rely on people like you – the audience – to let people know that they should be checking these shows out. All I’m trying to do is produce some solid marketing gold each week for the world to enjoy.
