Every Monday morning at 7:10 am, I am a guest contributor on CHOM 97.7 FM radio out of Montreal (home base). It’s not a long segment – about 10 minutes every week – about everything that is happening in the world of technology and digital media. The good folks at CHOM 97.7 FM are posting these segments weekly on i Heart Radio, if you’re interested in hearing more of me blathering away about what’s going on in the digital world. I’m really excited about this opportunity, because this is the radio station that I grew up listening to, and it really is a fun treat to be invited to the Mornings Rock with Terry DiMonte morning show. The segment is called, CTRL ALT Delete with Mitch Joel.
This week we discussed:
- Malcolm Gladwell is back with his latest book, Talking To Strangers. Many know him for his bestselling book, Outliers, The Tipping Point, Blink and many more. Malcolm will be in Montreal on Tuesday, October 1st in the evening at St. James United Church (463 Saint Catherine St. West) in conversation with Anne Lagace Dowson. The event is presented by Blue Metropolis with Paragraphe Bookstore and Hachette Book Group. $40 gets you a copy of his latest book and seat at the event. It sounds like a great night.
- What exactly is happening to your data on Facebook? Well, according to Facebook… they are still investigating it. In a blog post from three days ago, this is what the company revealed: “Our App Developer Investigation is by no means finished. But there is meaningful progress to report so far. To date, this investigation has addressed millions of apps. Of those, tens of thousands have been suspended for a variety of reasons while we continue to investigate.” Tens of thousands of apps? Gulp!
- Evil lurks everywhere these days. Close to two years ago, a nonprofit called, Free and Fair Markets Initiatives, launched a “grass roots” campaign criticizing Amazon. Well, it turns out that this group has some secret funders, according to The Wall Street Journal, that include: Walmart, Oracle and shopping mall owner, Simon Property Group. That doesn’t sound very “grass roots,” does it?
