Who is Geddy Lee?
Seriously, you don’t know who Geddy Lee is? The legend. I’m still shaking with excitement from this conversation. In case you have been living under a rock, Geddy Lee recently published the book that every bass player (maybe every musician?) must own titled, Geddy Lee’s Big Beautiful Book of Bass. Whether you are a beginner or expert, I promise that you will treasure this book. It is filled with the most incredible pictures, history and stories about the bass. It’s massive in size, quality and content. There has never been a book like this about the bass (and there probably will never be another one like it at this scale). Geddy is one of the greatest bass players of our time, having spent over forty years not just playing bass, but singing (and playing keyboards) with progressive rock legends, Rush. Along with guitarist Alex Lifeson and drummer Neil Peart, this power trio has recorded some of the most iconic music over the decades. Geddy has also been made an Officer of the Order of Canada and the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013. I had the very distinct honor of spending some time with Geddy during a cross-Canada book tour that landed in Montreal on June 4th, 2019. Enjoy the conversation…

What is Groove – The No Treble Podcast?
This is an ambitious effort. This will be a fascinating conversation. Our goal at Groove is to build the largest oral history of bass players. Why Groove? Most of the content about the bass revolves around gear, playing techniques, and more technical chatter. For us, bassists are creative artists with stories to tell. They are a force to be reckon with. These are the stories and conversation that we will capture. To create this oral history of why these artists chose the bass, what their creative lives are like, and where inspiration can be found.
