Graham Maby On This Month’s Groove – The No Treble Podcast

Graham Maby is this month’s conversation on Groove – The No Treble Podcast.

You can listen the new episode right here: Groove – The No Treble Podcast – Episode #56 – Graham Maby.

Who is Graham Maby?

He didn’t really get the chance to soak in Montreal. Graham Maby was busy clicking away at his keyboard. He’s trying to write his memoire. No easy feat. Since High School, he has been a friend and bass player to Joe Jackson. It’s closing in on 50 years (and has appeared on most of Jackson’s albums and tours – even when he worked with other musicians). When not gigging with Joe Jackson, he toured with Natalie Merchant, Graham Parker, Darden Smith and a few others. Maby joined They Might Be Giants for a brief stint as well. He’s a very compelling bass player. If you dig into Jackson’s biggest hits, the bass is central to the song (the way that Joe Jackson always intended it). Digging into his history of studio and touring right before the Joe Jackson gig in Montreal was a real treat. I think you will agree. Enjoy the conversation…

What is Groove – The No Treble Podcast?

This is an ambitious effort. This will be a fascinating conversation. Our goal at Groove is to build the largest oral history of bass players. Why Groove? Most of the content about the bass revolves around gear, playing techniques, and more technical chatter. For us, bassists are creative artists with stories to tell. They are a force to be reckon with. These are the stories and conversation that we will capture. To create this oral history of why these artists chose the bass, what their creative lives are like, and where inspiration can be found.
