May We All Love Life Like Sheldon Sazant And More On CHOM 97.7 FM

Every Monday morning at 7:10 am, I am on air at CHOM 97.7 FM radio out of Montreal (home base). It’s not a long segment – about 10 minutes every week – about everything that is happening in the world of technology, digital media and culture. The good folks at CHOM 97.7 FM are posting these segments weekly on i Heart Radio, if you’re interested in hearing more of me blathering on about what’s happening in the digital world. I’m really excited about this opportunity, because this is the radio station that I grew up listening to, and it really is a fun treat to be invited to the Mornings Rock with Terry DiMonte morning show. The segment is called, CTRL ALT Delete with Mitch Joel.

This week we discussed:

  • A pillar of the Montreal music scene was Steve’s Music Store manager, Sheldon Sazant. Sheldon passed away last week, and the entire music industry is in mourning. Sheldon was a true and kind gentleman. Always helpful, supportive and encouraging. As I walked the floor at NAMM this year, I was hopeful I would run into him (but I did not see him). I am truly saddened and surprised by this news. I’ve known Sheldon since I bought my first bass guitar (I was 13 years old?). He was also one of the first people to raise his hand and give advertising/support to my rock magazines in the 90s. He’s always been an integral part of my life… and many others. Condolences to his family… he will be missed.
  • Do you trust your doctor’s diagnosis? Do you trust artificial intelligence? “According to a study conducted by researchers from Imperial College London and Google Health, an AI program has been developed that can identify breast cancer from routine scans with greater accuracy than its human counterparts.” The computers are beating the doctors.
  • It took the Internet (and social media) by storm. It’s hard not to talk about the Dolly Parton Challenge. Did you do it? I didn’t. Some did it. Some did it well. Some were just perfect. This one won for me.
  • App of the Week: Future Me.

You can also listen in via I Heart Radio.
