Every Monday morning at 7:10 am, I am a guest contributor on CHOM 97.7 FM radio out of Montreal (home base). It’s not a long segment – about 10 minutes every week – about everything that is happening in the world of technology and digital media. The good folks at CHOM 97.7 FM are posting these segments weekly on i Heart Radio, if you’re interested in hearing more of me blathering away about what’s going on in the digital world. I’m really excited about this opportunity, because this is the radio station that I grew up listening to, and it really is a fun treat to be invited to the Mornings Rock with Terry DiMonte morning show. The segment is called, CTRL ALT Delete with Mitch Joel.
This week we discussed:
- How to beat the hackers. Follow Radiohead‘s lead. After 18 hours of demos for OK Computer were stolen from Thom Yorke, the band made a choice. Instead of paying the $150,000 in ransom that was requested, they released everything on Bandcamp for $18 pounds, with all of the proceeds going to Extinction Rebellion. The music (from 1995 – 1998) is a treasure trove for hardcore fans, useless to most and irritating to the hackers.
- Talk about a headline that will leave you both scratching your head and marveling at our present/future: Uber says it will start delivering McDonald’s by drone this summer.
- Deepfakes. When video (or voices) are altered, these fake videos should make us all both marvel at technology and fear what can be done, as this will be weaponized.
- App of the Week: Google PhotoScan.
