Rip! A Remix Manifesto is an open source documentary about copyright and remix culture.
Not only does the trailer below entice and excite, but check out what the Open Source Cinema website says about the documentary:
"Created over a period of six years, the film features the collaborative remix work of hundreds of people who have contributed to this website, helping to create the world’s first open source documentary."
At the O’Reilly Tools of Change for Publishers conference in New York this past February, Cory Doctorow (Boing Boing) said (and I am paraphrasing here): "nobody wakes up in the morning wondering how they can use their content less." (Doctorow is one of the features experts in Rip!).
The crux of the debate is mostly related to antiquated laws in a new media world. Couple that with the harsh reality that most rights given to content creators is done by geographic region, and you can begin to imagine the untangling of knowledge wires that needs to take place for these issues to be resolved.
This looks like an amazing movie:
(hat tip: Dave).
Thanks for the mention, Mitch! Its playing on the big screen in your hometown of Montreal at Cinema du Parc and AMC Forum, and opens across Canada next week! Come help independent cinema and join us at the screenings! I’ll be there with other members of the filmmaking team for Q+As. Thanks!
Looks awesome, Mitch! Thanks for sharing. Now if I can only find a Boston-area screening…
Awesome film that we just had here at the Adelaide Film Festival. Well worth a searching out!
