Six Links Worthy Of Your Attention #215

Is there one link, story, picture or thought that you saw online this week that you think somebody you know must see?

My friends: Alistair Croll (BitCurrent, Year One Labs, GigaOM, Human 2.0, Solve For Interesting, the author of Complete Web Monitoring, Managing Bandwidth: Deploying QOS in Enterprise Networks and Lean Analytics), Hugh McGuire (PressBooks, LibriVox, iambik and co-author of Book: A Futurist’s Manifesto) and I decided that every week the three of us are going to share one link for one another (for a total of six links) that each individual feels the other person "must see".

Check out these six links that we’re recommending to one another:

  • A Bank Uses Its ‘ATMs’ To Say Thanks To Regular Customers In The Most Personalized and Heartfelt Way – IJ Review. "There’s a reason Mitch and his team are so good at what they do, and that’s because they get under our skins. Watching this in a hotel in DC, I suddenly found I had something in my eye. This is great marketing through and through, and Mitch would never include it in his links. But I will." (Alistair for Hugh) – Mitch note: just to be clear, there has been a lot of multi-agency ideation around this brand and we just built the website for this initiative. We’re always very proud of the work that TD, our client, does!
  • Your ‘Craft’ Rye Whiskey Is Probably From a Factory Distillery in Indiana – The Daily Beast. "Damn, this makes me want to drown my sorrows. But it also provides an answer to the question of how so many boutique bourbon shops, launched by twenty-something hipsters, are suddenly launching with fifteen-year-old bourbons on their shelves." (Alistair for Mitch).
  • Guy Walks Into A Bar – The New Yorker. "…the extended version." (Hugh for Alistair).
  • Putting Thought Into Things – iA. "On doing the hard work when you are making something new." (Hugh for Mitch).
  • Nasa validates ‘impossible’ space drive – Wired UK. "So, you want to get a rocket ship with people on it to Mars? Well, that could take you months, right? Nope. Turns out that a couple of scientists have been working on a space drive type of microwave propulsion system that was nixed by the scientists as being impossible. Guess what? It works. It tested well and Nasa agrees. Once again, science – and theories that we thought were sound and unbreakable – are suddenly jolted into a newer reality. Yes, new science keeps proving yesterday’s science wrong. Imagine what this is all going to look like in the next ten years?" (Mitch for Alistair).
  • Maria Popova: Staying Present and Grounded in the Age of Information Overload – 99U. "There are people who claim to be great at curation, then there are people like Maria Popova. Every week, I hop over to her site, Brain Pickings, and there is just so much good stuff, that I find myself marveling at how she pulls it all together. No idea how she does it, but she does it magnificently! If you’re creative, if you like to think, if you like to be inspired, if you like to learn… there’s nothing better than what Maria has to offer. This is an article about the brains behind Brain Pickings. Love it." (Mitch for Hugh).

Feel free to share these links and add your picks on Twitter, Facebook, in the comments below or wherever you play.
