I’m glad to see that it’s not just the name of my Podcast, it’s not just the name of one of my keynote presentations and it’s not just the name of my yet-to-be-published book. The notion of Six Pixels Of Separation is alive and well and brought to life here at PodCamp Boston 2006.
It’s simple. Through technology we are all fundamentally connected and it allows us to market through conversations in ways we could never imagine possible. To see all of the portable recording gear is crazy. From video to cameras to audio to Blogging… everything is being recorded. One guy had, what looked like, a mobile phone earpiece. It tuned out to be a one-ear headphone monitor. He was recording all of his conversations… all of them. No matter how trivial.
I am pleased to report that Citizen Journalism is alive and well. If you don’t believe me, check out this Nokia N93 mobile device that Steve Garfield is playing with. Looks like a phone. Is a phone. Looks like a video camera. Is a video camera – including a one-push click to publish straight to video Blog button.
People are also connecting. This unconference is an amazing opportunity to network, increase your personal brand, learn and see where Podcasting is at… and where it needs to be.
Tonight was the opening reception held at The Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard Law School. We had an opportunity to listen to one of the first Podcasts ever (and yes, it felt just like hearing the first phone call ever). I also met with some old timers – guys who have been Podcasting since 2004.
Tonight’s reception was a great realization that Podcasting is still very new. Everyone here, even the folks who’ve been doing it for a few years, still don’t have all of the answers. Now, we have a full weekend to uncover the mysteries of Podcasting together.
