Every Monday morning at 7:10 am, I am a guest contributor on CHOM 97.7 FM radio out of Montreal (home base). It’s not a long segment – about 10 minutes every week – about everything that is happening in the world of technology and digital media. The good folks at CHOM 97.7 FM are posting these segments weekly on i Heart Radio, if you’re interested in hearing more of me blathering away about what’s going on in the digital world. I’m really excited about this opportunity, because this is the radio station that I grew up listening to, and it really is a fun treat to be invited to the Mornings Rock with Terry DiMonte morning show. The segment is called, CTRL ALT Delete with Mitch Joel.
This week we discussed:
- We’ve heard about self-driving cars and the accidents (and fatalities), but what about truly life-saving moments? Those don’t get the press that they should. Check out this incredible video. A Tesla Model 3 stops itself and avoids a terrible car crash.
- Deepfakes are a huge problem. Suddenly, the technology really can replicate and change everything from video, pictures and text to make it look like anyone (and say anything). Two cases in point: ThisPersonDoesNotExist, which generates an endless array of fake human faces that look strangely familiar. And AI Company, OpenAI, who shut down their AI text generator because, well, it was way too human and it freaked them out. That’s not hyperbole. Check out this article: AI can write just like me. Brace for the robot apocalypse.
- Smart audio, interactive voice and smart speakers. I’m bullish on this space. Here’s a data piece: 8 billion voice assistants will be in use by 2023. In short: Star Trek was right:
- App of the Week: Be My Eyes.
