The Good, Bad, Ugly On Tech And More On CHOM 97.7 FM

Every Monday morning at 7:10 am, I am on air at CHOM 97.7 FM radio out of Montreal (home base). It’s not a long segment – about 10 minutes every week – about everything that is happening in the world of technology, digital media and culture. The good folks at CHOM 97.7 FM are posting these segments weekly on i Heart Radio, if you’re interested in hearing more of me blathering on about what’s happening in the digital world. I’m really excited about this opportunity, because this is the radio station that I grew up listening to, and it really is a fun treat to be invited to the Mornings Rock with Terry DiMonte morning show. The segment is called, CTRL ALT Delete with Mitch Joel.

This week we discussed:

  • The Good: Passwords are still a huge problem for users (including me). Here’s some good news for those who use the Google Chrome browser: When you type your credentials into a website, Chrome will now warn you if your username and password have been compromised in a data breach on some site or app. It will suggest that you change them everywhere they were used.
  • The Bad: Have you ever sent a text like “Apologies, not feeling well, need to cancel.” According to a recent article on NBC News, texts like this are eroding eroding human interaction and, because of it, texting is ruining our personal relationships. What do you think?
The Ugly: Feet. I hate them. Just when I thought I could also make a life for myself in Silicon Valley comes this news item via Business Insider: Silicon Valley startups are offering no-shoes office policies, allowing employees to spend the workday in house slippers, socks or barefoot. 🤮
  • App of the Week: Mashable offers up – The best iPhone and Android apps of 2019.

You can also listen in via I Heart Radio.
