There’s no stopping fake news and social media politics if we don’t look at the influencers.
This past Sunday, I discussed (what I think is) one of the biggest challenges in trying to fix fake news, political ads on social media, and how to create a platform that works for all parties and ideas. The challenge is what to do with influencers, and the fact that influencer marketing is becoming an increasing priority for political candidates. Are influencers clear, transparent and honest? If we’re banning political ads, what do we do with the reality that political parties are swapping out their ad spending and moving it to these influencers? Who watches the watchers? This, and other current topics were discussed along with Emily Binder (Beetle Moment Marketing, Smart Audio Expert and all around good human), Wendi Cooper (DTC Consultant and podcaster) and host Bob Knorpp (always a good human) on the very excellent BeanCast Podcast (which I’ve been fortunate to be a guest on in the past). I don’t know what it is about BeanCast, Bob Knorpp and these other panelists, but there is always “something in the water” when we record these conversations that brings out a lot of stimulating ideas and insights (and some friendly disagreements too!).
