The days of, “do you remember when so-and-so said that thing on TV? What ever happened to them?” is long gone.
Whether it is fear, stress, anxiety, stupidity, or everything combined, The Long Tail of content is alive, well and forever. Digital Media makes the days of missing that special on radio or your favourite TV show seem as archaic as a television without a remote control.
There’s good things that come with this new channel, the bad… and the ugly.
I think this video from YouTube – Miss Teen USA 2007 – South Carolina Answers A Question – highlights them all:
What’s sadder: her response, the fact that a fifth of Americans can’t locate America on the map, or that this piece of our culture now lives on forever in The Long Tail of content?

I go for the third, although America is so big it shouldn’t really a problem to spot it… Think about pour Danish people then… But let’s look at the bright side: when Miss Carolina or her future husband will run for a seat, this document would prove to be invaluable…
Not sure whether to laugh or cry.

She must have been tutored by Dubya. Ay carumba.
Her mom must be so proud that she looked so good, likely sacrificing a base level education while dragging her from pagent to pagent .Poor kid.
No child left behind….except in South Carolina. Maybe she’ll get herself together one day, but this unfortunate moment will be preserved forever.
We tell our kids, don’t be afraid to take a risk, don’t be afraid to fail. But when we fail miserably, and someone has a camera rolling, what does that say about not being afraid to fail?
She still makes more sense than George Bush.
A good example of the maxim: “If what I am about to say is not going to improve on the silence, maybe I had better not say it.”
