Viral Cheese, Deadly Robots And More On CHOM 97.7 FM

Every Monday morning at 7:10 am, I am a guest contributor on CHOM 97.7 FM radio out of Montreal (home base). It’s not a long segment – about 10 minutes every week – about everything that is happening in the world of technology and digital media. The good folks at CHOM 97.7 FM are posting these segments weekly on i Heart Radio, if you’re interested in hearing more of me blathering away about what’s going on in the digital world. I’m really excited about this opportunity, because this is the radio station that I grew up listening to, and it really is a fun treat to be invited to the Mornings Rock with Terry DiMonte morning show. The segment is called, CTRL ALT Delete with Mitch Joel.

This week we discussed:

  • Take a slice of processed orange cheese and throw it at a baby’s face. What do you get? Yes… a viral sensation. The cheese challenge. Are we the worst? What do you think?
  • Twenty-five years ago, Facebook, Google, and Amazon didn’t exist. Now they are among the most valuable and well-known companies in the world. It’s a great story — but also one that highlights why the government must break up monopolies and promote competitive markets.” That was the opening line of Elizabeth Warren‘s Medium post just prior to the big SXSW festival that’s happening now. Warren has already declared that she will be looking to run in the next US presidential election. Does breaking up big tech make sense?
  • Robots are everywhere and we’re going to be having more and more of them, especially in medicine. Robot doctors are already helping to change the face of medicine. A California man learned he was dying from a robot doctor (kind of). True story. Sad story. Scary story
  • App of the Week: Castbox.
