Watch YouTube

YouTube is still very new.

This may surprise you, but it’s true. YouTube is on the verge of becoming something so much more than just online video. When Google acquired YouTube for $1.6 billion in 2006, it seemed like a strange and expensive acquisition. Billion-plus dollar acquisitions were not the norm, like they are today. Now, just look at how far YouTube has come. In the past year, we have seen a continued stream of YouTube creators build their own multi-millions dollar businesses. We have seen Disney acquire Maker Studios (a YouTube network) for $500 million. And, if you can just stretch your imagination just a little bit, it’s not hard to imagine a place and time when YouTube becomes the default destination for all of your video viewing content (TV, movies, etc…). Poke at that last line all that you like, but YouTube has some big and interesting plans.

Something to watch that’s not on YouTube.

Susan Wojcicki is YouTube’s CEO. She recently sat down for an interview at the Code/Mobile conference to update the world on where YouTube is at (which is interesting enough) and where it is going (which is note-taking worthy).

Here it is: Susan Wojcicki on the Quite Possibly Paid Future of YouTube
