Welcome to episode #246 of Six Pixels Of Separation – The Twist Image Podcast. When I first got interested in online marketing, there were only a handful of others you could turn to for serious professional advice. Along with Bryan Eisenberg and Joseph Jaffe, Ian Schafer was another one of the key people who played an integral part in the evolution of Digital Marketing. Currently, Schafer is the CEO and Founder of Deep Focus – an engagement and innovation marketing agency. Prior to founding Deep Focus in 2002, Schafer was VP of the New Media division of Miramax Films. Named a "Media Maven" by Advertising Age and one of Adweek‘s “Young Ones”, Ian has been featured in Wired, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and many more publications. We’ve been friends for a while and realized that on the eve of sharing the stage at the upcoming Socialize event by Media Bistro in New York City (March 31st – April 1st, 2011), it is high time that we recorded a conversation about Marketing, and how companies should strive to get more out of it. Enjoy the conversation…

Mitch, I can’t wait for your podcasts and would love to see you speak in person. I understand you were in Burlington, VT somewhat recently. I live in Hanover, NH (home of Dartmouth College) and hope you might be speaking somewhere in the Northeast soon.
Your show with Edward Boches was terrific. I think he was pretty gracious at the end by thanking you (and others) for compressing his learning curve by sharing so much content. I feel the same way. Thanks…
Bob
No immediate plans, but you never know, so stay tuned… also feel free to come to NYC for Socialize… looks like a great event!
Are you referring to http://socialmediaweek.org/newyork/
It looks like fun. I think I’ll make that a goal…
Thanks again
Bob
Nope – I am referring to this:

Hey Mitch,
Great podcast! I didn’t know much about Ian. FYI: wrong link for Deep Focus. It is now deepfocus.com but deepfocus.net : )
Oups I meant “it is not” and not “it is now” – sorry
Fixed it – thanks for catching it.
Great interview BUT who kept sharpening their pencil?
LOL – that was Ian’s side… pipes be bursting in NYC buildings!
